This four-hour non-accredited awareness course is designed for people who live, work or spend time in bushland, rural and regional communities across NSW.
The course provides practical, easy-to-understand information about bushfire risk, fire behaviour, emergency warnings and household preparedness. Participants will learn how to recognise changing conditions, find reliable emergency information and make safer decisions before, during and after a bushfire.

- How to understand NSW fire danger ratings and Total Fire Bans
- What Advice, Watch and Act, and Emergency Warning alerts mean
- Where to find reliable information, including Hazards Near Me NSW and NSW RFS updates
- How to prepare a bushfire survival plan
- How to prepare your household, property, pets and emergency kit
- The importance of leaving early and planning safe destinations and travel routes
- What to do if conditions change or your original plan cannot be followed
- Basic safety considerations during and after a bushfire
This is an awareness and preparedness course. It does not qualify participants to fight bushfires, enter active firegrounds or perform the duties of emergency-service personnel.
